Every so often I am asked, why we have a biblical counseling center at Clearcreek Chapel? Others ask why we even do biblical counseling? I’ll quickly answer that here.
Biblical Counseling is the process where the Bible, God’s Word, is related individually to a person or persons who are struggling under the weight of personal sin and/or the difficulties with suffering, so that he or she might genuinely change in the inner person to be pleasing to God.
Our vision is to provide biblical counseling resources, biblical crisis counseling, and biblical counseling training to the members of Clearcreek Chapel as well as Christian people from other churches. Our counseling includes the importance of prayer, dependence on God, a thorough knowledge of the Word of God, and an understanding of ministering to people.
Our purpose is to partner with and support our Elders in the cure and care of souls within the membership of our local fellowship. That includes partnering with other area churches to provide biblical counseling to their members as one who comes alongside during crisis situations.
In working through that purpose, we provide resources in the form of this blog, papers, books and training, to help those that will assist others to minister side-by-side with their fellow believers.
We are convinced that there is a significant need for biblical crises counseling (Galatians 6:1-3) and that many churches and pastors are little equipped for (and sometimes, little interested in) crises counseling. This leaves many of God’s people to go to the world system for help or to get help in other churches or “religious” counseling centers. The heart is desperately wicked and leans toward sin. The Bible is the answer to the problems, suffering, and temptation facing believers. Biblical counseling brings the Word of God to bear on the lives of those struggling and the Holy Spirit uses the Word to transform lives.
The Bible, given by God, is sufficient for life in that, when properly interpreted, it reveals to the believer all the data necessary for one to understand his need for Christ, how he can please the Lord, and how to live in a god-honoring way regardless of the circumstances whether comfortable or oppressive. The Bible is also the authoritative source with which all truth claims–including claims made by science, psychology, and history–must be evaluated. As a result, we reject all counseling theories that use presuppositions, principles, and/or methodologies that are inconsistent with the proper interpretation of the biblical text. Genuine heart change, however, is totally dependent on the ministry of the Holy Spirit
To assure we do our part, we require that all counselors are adequately trained and ACBC certified. We make sure that counselors are provided with journals and books to provide on-going education. We schedule regular meetings for the counseling team to discuss issues and approaches.
All these things are meant for God’s glory and our good.
